Kenworth, a renowned truck manufacturer, has issued a significant recall affecting over 3,800 trucks across 15 different models. This recall, which spans model years 2018-2024, addresses a critical safety issue related to seat belts, a key component in ensuring driver safety.
The recall specifically targets the Kenworth T800 and W900 models from the 2018-2024 model years, along with the 2020 Kenworth T660. A total of 3,841 trucks are involved in this recall. The issue lies in an additional spacer that may have been mistakenly added to the joint connecting the seat to the seat belt tether and buckle. This error, identified by parent company Paccar, could lead to an unsecured connection.
According to the notice issued to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the oversight in the seat belt assembly could potentially compromise the safety of the truck’s occupants. In the event of a crash, the unsecured connection might fail to adequately restrain the occupant, thereby increasing the risk of injury.
To address this safety concern, Kenworth dealers will carry out inspections on the affected vehicles and will remove the additional spacer if found. Moreover, they will replace the bolt if necessary. This repair work will be conducted at no charge to the truck owners, ensuring that the vehicles are brought up to the appropriate safety standards without incurring additional costs.
