Samsara Expands with New Office in Mexico City

San Francisco-based Samsara has strategically opened a new office in Mexico City. This move is designed to support its rapidly growing customer base in Mexico. Initially entering the Mexican market in 2019, Samsara has swiftly expanded its presence, now serving five of the top ten Mexican trucking firms. The company plans to double its Mexican workforce to approximately 400 by year’s end, enhancing its roles in technology, operations, sales, and support to better cater to the increasing market demands.

Julia Monroy on Expanding Team and Services

Julia Monroy, Samsara’s Sales Director for Mexico, shared insights with FreightWaves about the company’s growth and future plans. “From just ten employees two years ago to about 200 today, we anticipate doubling this number in the coming year. We are expanding across all departments—sales, support, and finance—to ensure our customers receive comprehensive support throughout their journey with us,” Monroy explained.

Founded in 2015, Samsara (NYSE: IOT) provides a cloud-connected platform that modernizes physical operations for industries such as energy, food and beverage, and transportation. CEO Sanjit Biswas noted that the company’s growth in Mexico underscores the significant return on investment Samsara delivers to its clients, particularly in improving safety and security within the trucking sector.

Custom Solutions for the Mexican Market

Samsara & New Mexico

Monroy highlighted Samsara’s focus on tailoring products to meet local needs. A key innovation was the development of an immobilizer, crucial for customer security. “Initially, our absence of an immobilizer was a dealbreaker for potential clients. However, after receiving feedback, our product team developed an immobilizer within six months, significantly bolstering our clients’ trust by demonstrating our commitment to meet their specific needs,” she said.

Recent features specifically designed for the Mexican market include Driver QR codes for better vehicle assignment, and the AG52 Asset Gateway, which enhances cargo security through real-time alerts.

TriumphPay’s Network Expands to Include Mexican Pesos

Monroy also commented on the increasing trends in cross-border trade, especially the rise in nearshoring, which has positioned Mexico as the U.S.’s top trading partner in 2023—the first time in over two decades that the U.S. has imported more from Mexico than from China. She anticipates continued growth and adoption of advanced technologies in cross-border trade among Mexico, Canada, and the U.S.

In related news, Dallas-based TriumphPay has expanded its open payments network to support transactions in Mexican pesos, a move that underscores its commitment to facilitating easier and more secure cross-border transactions in the freight transportation industry. “As trade increases between the U.S. and Mexico, offering transactions in pesos will greatly benefit our customers, providing them with faster payments and enhanced security,” stated Melissa Forman, president of TriumphPay.

New Developments in Auto Manufacturing and Chemical Transport

In other developments, UTAS-NOVA Automotive Lighting Systems Co. has announced the construction of a new $36M factory in Aguascalientes, Mexico, which will produce various automotive lighting components, creating approximately 220 jobs.

Meanwhile, Quantix has broadened its portfolio by acquiring Space City Services, enhancing its capabilities in transporting hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals across the Gulf Coast. This acquisition marks a significant step in Quantix’s strategy to provide comprehensive supply chain solutions in the chemical industry.
